Privacy Policy

Our Approach

Trojan Horse Companion is a free companion app for Misty Phillip's book The Trojan Horse of the Digital Age. It is designed around a simple principle: your reading, journaling, and assessment results stay on your device. We do not have user accounts, we do not sync to a cloud, and we do not sell your data.

What Stays on Your Device

The following data is stored exclusively on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework. It is never transmitted to us or any third party:

• Your chapter reading progress
• Your 90-day devotional journal entries
• Your Digital Discernment Assessment answers and tier results
• Your book-ownership answer from onboarding

Deleting the app removes this data permanently. There is no server copy to recover.

Anonymous Analytics

We use Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand which features are used and to diagnose crashes. The data collected is limited to:

• Anonymous device identifier (Apple's Identifier for Vendors, or IDFV) — a per-app token that cannot be tied back to you personally
• Product interaction events — e.g., "user opened devotional", "user completed assessment"
• Diagnostic data — crash reports, app version, iOS version

This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. Firebase's data handling is governed by Google's Firebase Privacy Policy.

Remote Configuration

We also use Firebase Remote Config to push small content updates (like the current "Verse of the Day" source or maintenance messages) without requiring an app update. Remote Config does not collect any personal data.

Scripture via YouVersion

When you open a chapter and view scripture inline, or tap a verse to read it in full on Bible.com, the app makes a request to YouVersion's public REST API. The scripture text used is the New International Version (NIV), rendered under a Biblica Fast-track commercial license (version ID 111).

YouVersion may log standard API request data (IP address, timestamp, version requested) under their own privacy policy, available at youversion.com/privacy-policy. We do not send YouVersion any personal information about you.

What We Do Not Collect

The app does not collect, request access to, or transmit any of the following:

• Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact information
• Your location (no GPS, no region beacons, no coarse location)
• Your contacts, calendar, reminders, or photos
• Your health or fitness data
• Your microphone or camera
• Your browsing history or search queries
• Your financial or payment information — the app is free and contains no in-app purchases

Children's Privacy

This app is intended for families and is suitable for all ages (rated 4+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children because, as stated above, we do not collect personal information from anyone. The app requires no sign-up, no email, and no name.

Data Sharing and Sale

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or any commercial purpose. The only third parties that receive data are Firebase (anonymous analytics) and YouVersion (scripture requests), each in the narrow scope described above.

Your Rights

Because we do not associate data with your identity, there is no account to access, export, or delete. If you want to erase everything the app has stored, delete the app from your iPhone — that is complete removal.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where the change affects how data is used, post a notice within the app before the change takes effect.
